I lost my furry best friend last week to cancer. ☹ It took her life faster than we all expected. She was my best friend and was there for me through my many life changes. I know all of you dog lovers out there can understand this, Dakota was a very special dog. A dog that held such a special place in my heart that I will never forget her and I will carry her memory with me every day I live.

The best part of Dakota’s life was she inspired me to open Ruffledale. She changed my course of life with her life. I had it all planned out that I would graduate with a BS in Exercise Physiology and find a career using that knowledge…..but Dakota had other plans.

While I was at work she would be at home destroying the interior of the house (yes, she was a very naughty puppy.) She was bored….no longer did I have as much time to spend with her now that I had a “real job.” So that is when the research began. Why not open a fun place to dogs to exercise. I have always been an extreme animal lover, for those that know me, know I can be a little crazy about all the critters that inhabitant this earth. That is when the vision of Ruffledale Pet Resort and Paw Spa was born.

Dakota was there to help me get it started and helped me through figuring it all out. Everyday I will be thankful that I was able to give Dakota a wonderful home for the 10 years she lived.

For those of you that love Ruffledale… Now you know that a dog name Dakota Jane was the one who really we should all give credit too!!

I love you Dakota Jane… I will miss you everyday…I will miss your naughtiness the most… I can’t wait to see you again, I hope you are the first to greet me when I die.

December Dog of the Month...OLIVER

December Dog of the Month; Oliver

Oliver is a very sweet Border Collie and Elk Hound mix. He is a very silly guy, and is really under the impression that he is not a dog at all, but a human. His parents and the girls at Ruffledale go along with his beliefs on that matter. He can be a border collie-human mix! Oliver has been coming to Ruffledale for about a year. He used to come with his sister Gracie. Sadly, Gracie passed away this past spring. Oliver and his family had a hard time with her loss, but still enjoy the memories of her and Oliver playing together.

Oliver was a rescue pup. He came originally to his Mom who gave him lots of love. She first gave Oliver a bath and then spoiled him with toys and love. Oliver also got a new sister when he came home. After lots of love with his new Mom and sister, Oliver got a new Dad and the two of them became best friends right away. Oliver’s Dad has nicknamed Oliver “Buzz.” Oliver always loves to come play at Ruffledale but is always a little sad to leave his Dad. In Oliver’s ideal world his family would come to Ruffledale with him during the day! Oliver loves coming to play, but he is also happy to go home at the end of the day. He especially loves if his Mom gets him some chicken nuggets on his way home from daycare. Mmmm…. Those are his favorite of all treats! Oliver also loves to play with an old ball that belonged to Gracie when he gets home. Oliver is a very loyal dog and loves his family unconditionally.

Oliver is a very loving boy. He loves having right above the base of his tail rubbed. That is his favorite “spot.” Oliver also loves to show his affection by giving “hugs.” “Hugs” are very sweet because Oliver will literally jump up on you (when you ask him too) and give you a very human like hug. He does have to get to know you a little bit before he is willing to do hug’s with you. We all love getting Oliver hugs here at Ruffledale. Oliver has become a regular here at Ruffledale and we are all happy to see him every morning. He loves to stick with his favorite people and is always full of love for us! We have all loved the time we have gotten to share with Oliver. xoxoxo

In Loving Memory...

We lost a very important part of our Ruffledale Family. Charlie was a special part of his family and we know how much they loved him and how much he meant to them.

We all will miss Charlie dearly. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family. His life was too short and we will miss his kisses everyday..

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Bastian is a five year old neutered lab. He is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations. He is such a happy boy! He loves everyone. All people and all dogs. October Dog of the Month; Buddy H

Buddy is a barely 2 year old Black Lab. His birthday is was on August 31^st. He has been coming to play at Ruffledale since he was 7 months old. We have loved watching Buddy grow up. He has turned out to be such a silly and fun dog! Buddy LOVES all toys. The best ones are the ones that squeak. He also loves frisbees and balls that he can chase! Buddy is a great ball chaser! Buddy also loves Jumbones and Chicken Jerky. At Ruffledale he gets his fair share of Milk bones, and he is pretty partial to those too!

Buddy’s parents found him and all of his brothers and sisters on a corner in Bountiful. They chose Buddy out of the litter. We all bet that he was an adorable puppy. How could you resist a little Buddy?? After they chose him out, they took Buddy to buy a new collar, leash and a bag of food. Little Baby Buddy napped during the whole trip. Once he got home, Buddy’s new parents introduced him to his new cousin B.J., Buddy and B.J. have been best friends ever since. They love to get together and play. Buddy was his parents’ “first-child,” but in February Buddy will be a big brother to a human baby brother. We all think Buddy will be a great brother to a human. He is always very gentle and sweet with kids.

Buddy has a few Best Friends here at Ruffledale. Actually, we think Buddy may have a bit of a love triangle going on between Liberty, Kayzer and him. Liberty and Kayzer are both German Shepherds so we think he has a thing for German Shepherds. Buddy LOVES to play with both Liberty and Kayzer, but always one at a time. Liberty and Kayzer are both jealous girls and don’t like to share Buddy so they have to take turns playing with him. But Buddy is always happy to play with one or the other. Liberty and Kayzer are both such sweet girls, but are also a little silly and crazy. So Buddy must like silly and crazy women! Buddy’s other best friend (who is a boy) is Cooper the golden retriever. They play so hard together when they are both here at daycare. After they are all tired and worn out, they lay together and drink out of the water bowl for a while till they are re-energized and can romp and play again. Sometimes you’ve gotta have guy time with all the girlfriends fighting over you!

Buddy loves to have his butt scratched as well as behind his ears. Those are his two favorite spots. He knows some pretty cool tricks such as “Stick-em-up” and “down” to play dead, but he won’t show his friends here at daycare. There is too much distraction to be showing off his tricks here! Silly guy. We have all come to love our Buddy and have really enjoyed have him being a part of our Ruffledale pack for so long. We all adore him, naughtiness and all. He is such a sweet heart and we are happy every day when he comes to play!

August Dog of the Month- Millie

Millie was being camera shy yesterday here at Ruffledale. We tried all day without any success of getting any pictures. Her parents sent us some of Millie at home.... Here she is relaxing!

About Millie

Millie is an extra sweet Whippet and Black Lab mix. The girls at Ruffledale also think she is half cat. She moves like a cat… ha ha She is very petite and weighs only about 30 pounds, but she definitely has a bigger personality than a little girl! Millie is a super duper escape artist. That is how we got to know Millie here at daycare. She escaped from her parents house by scaling a 5 foot fence to find out where they had went once they left for the day. After climbing the fence, she took advantage of her petite frame and slipped underneath another gate that was in her way. After a few escapes, Millie’s parents decided she needed to come to daycare to keep her busy during the day. Even here at daycare she is a sneaky girl. She likes to jump our back gates, but luckily not our fences. Millie is also a little digger to try to get where she wants to go.

Millie was born in April of 2010 so she is just over a year old. Millie is a very socialable girl and loves everyone. Her best friend of all time is Maggie (May dog of the month) Maggie and Millie have grown up together here at daycare. They are so silly together but are also very happy to have other dogs in their “playgroup.” Millie’s family adopted her as a young girl, she is a rescue who couldn’t have found a better home. Millie’s family decided to get her after the loss of their 14 year old Tasi-dog. Tasi will of course always be dearly loved, but Millie has helped bring love and joy back to her family’s home after the loss. As much happiness as she brings, and as sweet as Millie is, she is also a little mischief maker! Millie loves to steal brand new bags of treats and has a special hide out at her house between the shed and fence where she can enjoy her loot! Her favorite of all treats to steal are salmon treats. Yum!!

Millie LOVES playing fetch. She will play fetch outside multiple times a day if her parents will indulge her. She loves her tennis balls and anything else that she can fetch for her parents. A day without fetch is just not complete for Little Miss Millie! Just like any other dog, Millie has some things she doesn’t love. One thing is long drives in the car. She gets a little impatient being confined for too long. One of the worst things you can do to Millie is to “pretend” to throw a ball. It is very frustrating to be looking for something you can’t find! Poor Millie. She also doesn’t appreciate having air blow in her face, another negative for car rides.

Millie is such a sweet girl. Her parents say she isn’t all sugar, but here at daycare we all think she is! She loves to play and when she wants a break from rough housing with her canine pals, she LOVES getting kisses from all of her people friends here! She is so sweet and gives us all the most gentle kisses. Millie is the perfect size to be a little lap girl! We all love when she is here. On days she misses, we miss having her sweet face here!

About Maggie:

Our sweet Maggie is a year old “Labweiller” (Lab and Rottweiler mix). She just turned a year old in March. She started coming to daycare when she was only eight months old. We have loved watching her grow up and become an (almost) grown up pup!! Maggie loves all dogs who come in to play. She is always one of our most friendly dogs here in daycare. She is also one of the craziest…. Any time there is a big wild and crazy play-group Maggie is right in the middle of the action! Some of her best friends are Millie, Beau (our live in foster dog), Little Lucky, and Shiloh, but Maggie isn’t picky and is happy to play with everyone.

You know your in good with Maggie if she chews on your arms. Silly Maggie loves to chew on arms as a symbol of her affection. When she gets dropped off in the morning for Daycare Maggie switches from chewing on her Mom or Dad to chewing on a “Ruffledale girl’s” arms! We all love our “love chews” from Miss Maggie! Because of all the fun Maggie has here at daycare once she is home she loves to get belly rubs and sleep to revive herself for another day of playing! Belly rubs are the key to Maggie’s heart. Maggie also loves chicken treats. That is another favorite of Maggie’s. Although, there are plenty of other treats that are yummy too!! Maggie is more than willing to do her favorite trick, somersault for any variety of treats.

Maggie was very happy to get to come home to her new family. She loves to play with her “cousin” Bear. Bear is her best friend to play with when she is at home. Maggie loves to get to romp around in her yard either with or without her friend Bear. Then when she is nice and tired, there is nothing better than lounging underneath the Apple Tree. Maggie also loves when her family takes her to play in the water. She dives full force into the river, then submarines before she finally comes back up. With Maggie’s little stubby tail, she kind of looks like a submarine. Maggie is such a sweet girl. We all love having her at daycare and hate the weeks when her Mom is off track at school and we don’t get to see our Maggie. It is so fun for us to watch Maggie and her “partner-in-crime” Millie. They are always on the prowl for something exciting to do! Maggie is the best little arm chewer we know and we all love her dearly!!

March dogs of the Month; Rufus and Ripli

About Rufus & Ripli:

Rufus and Ripli are two adorable little “boxer babies.” Well, really they are a year old, but to us they are still “boxer babies.” Rufus and Ripli are littermates and were born on June 26^th 2009. We have known them here at Ruffledale since they were about 10 months old. We all love when they are here and enjoy our “boxer days.” Rufus is a male “flashy” (white chest, face and collar) boxer and Ripli is a female fawn with a black mask. They are a very lovely pair. Rufus and Rupli both LOVE having behind their ears rubbed and Miss Ripli also likes to have her tummy rubbed. Like true boxers Rufus and Rupli’s favorite things in life are: eating, eating, eating, playing, playing, playing and then finally cuddling, cuddling, cuddling. Silly boxers. They both have their own special toys. Rufus loves the Frisbee and Ripli loves her special road kill toy. Of all the treats that they love, Rufus and Ripli especially love milk bones and chicken strips. Mmmmmm

Rufus and Ripli had it a little easier than most puppies when they went to their new home because they still had each other. They still missed their dog Mom, but were happy they had each other. They got to share a kennel because they were both little tiny babies. It took a little while to convince Rufus and Ripli that dog food was yummy. They only liked treats at first. Maybe they were trying to convince their new human parents that treats were the way to go rather than plain old dog food. Smart little boxers. Rufus and Ripli loved their new family. They love their new two legg’d human brother. They go crazy when he picks them up from daycare. They also get excited to see his friends when they are with him. Rufus and Ripli loved running around outside in their new yard playing chase. They still do. They are the best of friends as well as brother and sister.

Rufus and Ripli’s best friend here at daycare is Marcus. They knew Marcus from their puppy training class and were reunited with him here at Daycare. Rufus and Ripli love to play with the classic “boxer punch” type of play and Marcus LOVES it! They are a very silly and crazy threesome to watch. Some of Rufus and Ripli’s other favorite friends are Shiloh, Stetson, Packer the boxer, Maggie & Millie! Rufus and Ripli’s parents also enjoy taking them to the dog park to make other new friends. Rufus and Ripli pretty much always stick together. As they get older, they get a little bit more independent, but are still very aware of where their sibling is. They are so sweet and love each other so much. Rufus and Ripli are such a great part of our pack here at Ruffledale. They love their visits and make us laugh all day with their silliness. We’ve loved watching them mature and become such good “boxer babies.” They are a joy to have and we would miss them if we didn’t get to have them visit.

February Dog of the Month: Maggie

About Maggie:

Maggie is a year and 4 month old Chocolate lab. Her birthday is on October 13^th 2009. There are more pictures of Miss Maggie eating her Birthday cake on her Birthday in the Birthday album. Maggie is a very camera shy girl so getting good pictures of Maggie can be a chore. She hides when we pull the camera out! Silly girl, she doesn’t like the spotlight. We have to sneak up on her with the camera! Maggie is known by many fantastic names such as; “Magalicious”, “Magadoches”, “Magnificent Mags”, and “Magdoll”!! Silly names for a silly girl. Maggie is a very special dog to all of the girls here at Ruffledale. She has been coming here since she was only 12 weeks old! She was such an adorable little baby we couldn’t help fall in love with her right away. Now that she is all grown up (well mostly) we all still love her just as much!

Maggie is an only child to her parents Andy and Lindsay. Her parents drove all the way out to American Fork to pick her up where her Dog parents lived. It was a long drive for little Maggie since at that time her new Mom and Dad were strange people to her! But once she got home she very quickly got comfortable in her new Layton home. Maggie loved getting to run around the house and check out all of the new and exciting smells! It wasn’t to long before she got to come and meet her new friends at Ruffledale too! Maggie landed the high life! Maggie is such a big part of her human parents life. She loves to cuddle all night on the couch with them. Maggie is such a loveable girl. She is so happy to get love and attention. She especially loves getting her belly rubbed.

At Ruffledale we never get to rub Maggie’s belly because she doesn’t hold still long enough! Maggie is too busy playing like a crazy girl with all of her best friends. Some of her favorites are Lucy M, Lucy L, Dutch, Stetson, Kayzer, Toby and Dash among others. Maggie will pretty much play with anyone! Maggie also loves to eat!! After all of her playing she needs lots of yummies to give her energy. Her favorite treats of all time are Puperoni’s. If Maggie doesn’t get to eat first thing in the morning she makes sure to let her parents know that she isn’t pleased, by whining. Other things Maggie loves are playing with plastic water bottles or any squeaky toy with stuffing. Maggie loves going on long walks with one or both of her parents. Maggie knows lots of tricks also. All you need is a Puperoni to get Maggie to “sit”, “paw,” “lay down,” or her most fantastic trick “turn around and jump very high!” That is an impressive one! Since Maggie is a purebread lab, besides eating another thing she loves is Swimming. Maggie hopes her parents take her back to Bear Lake this summer for some more splashing around!

We have all loved spending this last year watching Maggie grow up into an amazing dog! She is such a sweet heart and a very happy girl! She is a great addition to our daycare friends and we will always cherish the time we have had with our sweet girl Magdoll!

December Dogs of the Month; Kayzer & Peso

About Kayzer and Peso:

Kayzer and Peso are such a silly pair! Kayzer is a year and a half old German Shepherd who is “wild” and “crazy.” Peso was a rescued pooch. His family thinks he was born in about 1999, which would make him around 11 years old! Peso still thinks he is a young guy though and Kayzer has revived his youthfulness! Peso is a small breed terrier mix. Since Kayzer is such a crazy girl, she comes regularly to daycare to help her burn off all that puppy energy. She loves to play with all of her doggie friends and is such a doll with her people friends here at daycare. She is so sweet and is always full of kisses for everyone. Peso usually stays home and takes naps during daycare visits, but we still get to see him when he comes for sleepovers. We all could see the way Kayzer grew on Peso as his family had her longer. At first they would sleep in separate bedrooms, but now Peso always wants to be with Kayzer (even if it’s right in the middle of the craziest puppy playing!).

Peso has a special “squirrel” that is his favorite toy at home. Kayzer is much less specific and will enjoy any toy that squeaks. Kayzer loves it when her family treats her to her favorite thing to eat, a rawhide! Mmm. Peso prefers “Lick-N-Crunch” treats. Kayzer and Peso both have very silly tricks. Kayzer’s specialty is “be shy” and “stick em’ up.” Peso will “say please” for anything you ask him too. Peso really hates having his face blown in, and Kayzer definitely doesn’t like when the doorbell rings. Kayzer was just a little girl when she went home to her new family. She was so happy to meet everyone, especially Peso. Kayzer was so excited to meet her new brother that she was a little over boisterous. She had to be separated from him for a little while so she could calm down and not trample poor Peso. Peso was not as impressed with his new sister, but he has grown to love her. Since Peso was a rescue, he was a little older when he came to live with his family. When Peso first came home from the adoption at the mall he ran strait into the sliding glass door! He was so excited to finally have a family and a real bed to sleep in.Although Peso still likes beds, he has now decided the best place to sleep is in his Mom or Dad’s lap! Silly Peso.

Everyone here at Ruffledale has really enjoyed getting to know Kayzer and Peso. Kayzer is gone for some doggie boot camp training right now so we will all miss her for the next couple of weeks. But thankfully we will get to see Peso for a sleep over soon! Kayzer will be home in time for Christmas so her and Peso will get to be together for the holdidays. They are both such sweet hearts. We all have loved watching the way they’ve grown. Kayzer will melt if you scratch her tummy and she has made lots of friends through tummy rubs. Peso is happy if you just pet his face and ears. Much love to our lovable pair!

November Dog of the Month; Lucy

About Lucy:

Lucy is a very sweet mixed breed pup. Her families best guess about her breeds are; a little lab, shepherd and some time of hound. But really Lucy is just all of the best parts of all breeds! November is the perfect time for Lucy to be dog of the month because she is celebrating her 1 year Birthday on November 3^rd!! She is all grown up and has become such a great “dog.” Lucy loves her toy “Kathy the Kitty.” She loves to squeak her while she is playing. Lucy also loves treat time! She may not be a very good dinner and breakfast eater, but treats are definitely different! Lucy’s all time favorite treats are “snausages” and “peanut butter twists.” If Lucy could just eat those for breakfast and dinner, she would be a great eater. Too bad Mom wouldn’t go for that! Since Lucy loves her treats so much, she has learned to perform lots of tricks. Some of her best tricks include “sit,” “shake,” and “lay down.” She is without a doubt a very smart puppy.

One of Lucy’s favorite ways to start the day is by waking up to her Mom gently scratching her belly. Lucy takes it slow while she wakes up so she can savor all the relaxing scratches. Lucy’s favorite breakfast is wild rice and salmon flavored. After breakfast Lucy will be ready to come play with all of her friends here at Ruffledale! They she is wild and crazy Lucy! Lucy’s family picked her out at a Petsmart adoption day. One of the reasons they loved Lucy so much is because she was out of her kennel “hugging” the volunteer and “giving kisses” on his cheeks! Lucy certainly knows how to win over hearts. Once Lucy was home, she pottied all over in her new house…..Woops!! Then Lucy found the spot under her Mom’s bed where she would take things she is not supposed to have. That spot is still Lucy’s haven for hiding things that are “off limits.” Naughty Lucy!

Lucy loves going to visit her Grandma Wilkes in Wyoming. She likes to pretend she is tough and chase around the horses. She also gets to play with all of her cousins. Seeing family is always great. Also in Wyoming Lucy gets to take hikes in the Beautiful Mountains. Lucy has been such a great Puppy for her family. She has stolen all of their hearts and it isn’t hard to see why. Lucy is such a sweet girl. Now that she is one, she will continue to be a great “dog” for her family. Lucy loves getting lots and lots of kisses from all of her family. She likes kisses from “Ruffledale girls” too! We all have loved getting to watch Lucy grow up (even though she is still the bouncy and lively pup we all love!) Happy Birthday Little Lucy!!!

About Buddy:

Buddy is a sweet lab mix who always loves coming to play at daycare. Buddy is 2 years old. His family got him when he was already 6 months old so they just guessed his birthday to be May 19^th of 2008. Buddy is a very silly boy. He loves to go swimming (no wonder he had so much fun at doggie swim day)! He is so gracefull in the water and is definitely a “water dog.” Buddy also loves to play Frisbee and would love to just play and play and play…. No rest required!! Although summer activities are great, Buddy also loves the snow regardless of his short fur coat. In the winter he loves it when his Mom and Dad take him snowshoeing! It is the best when it is so deep he can barely keep his head above the snow. Buddy thinks it is fun to go tumbling down all of the hills…. the crazier the better! Once he takes a good tumble down a hill then it is back up to fall down another! Crazy Buddy!

After a good long fun filled day in the snow or sun, Buddy loves to have the top of his head rubbed and scratched. Behind his ears is another spot that Buddy loves rubbed while he relaxes. But when Buddy is tired he HATES it when you touch his paws. If he is awake and active it is fine, but once he is cozy it must tickle too much! Buddy knows lots of tricks. Some of his favorites are “Roll Over” and “360˚.” Buddy will do any of these tricks and more if you spoil him with his favorite treat; Carrots (at least it is healthy ).

When Buddy came to his new home, his Mom was out of town on a work trip so it was just him and his new Dad at home. But how could Mom resist his sweet face when she came home to see him! Buddy followed his Dad all around the house for the first little while. Surprisingly when they went on their first walk, Buddy was a perfect angel! That was the final thing for Buddy to work himself into his new parents hearts. Good Boy Buddy! They knew he would be the perfect dog for them. Then Buddy got to come to daycare and make lots of new friends here! He is always so sweet and happy to be here. We all feel fortunate that we have gotten a chance to love Buddy too! Buddy is not only great with all dogs, people and kids, but he lives for the chance to get to meet everyone!

About Shiloh;

Shiloh is a wild and crazy Catahoula and Lab mix who comes regularly to daycare here at Ruffledale! She just turned a year old in July (her family isn’t exactly sure of the date since she was a “pound puppy”)! Shiloh is always so happy while she is here, really she is happy all the time. Shiloh has been coming to Ruffledale since she was about 7 months old. We’ve all loved watching her grow up! Shiloh loves everyone. One of her best friends is Charlie, the 140 pound great dane mix, but she also loves her “little” friends and any other dog she comes across! All dogs are greeted by Shiloh with very boistrous and happy “kisses.” Shiloh has never met a dog she doesn’t love.

When Shiloh is hangin’ out at home her favorite thing to do is run free on the family ranch. Of course, she loves to chase the chickens, horses and butterflys, and if there is a mud puddle of any kind she finds it to dig in. We also have heard a little rumor that she loves to eat chicken poop, she thinks it’s quite yummy!!

Shiloh is definitely A special pup, she has survived a lot during her first year. She was rescued by her mom from a shelter Ten hours Roundtrip from her house! She saw shiloh online and new that they would have a special bond. She drove all the way there to take her home. After making it to her new home, her mom discovered she was suffering from a severe bladder infection. Not long after, she discovered Shiloh had Parvo!! With her families love and care she survived both of these ailments. When they thought the worst had passed shiloh GOT A blockage FROM SOMETHING NAUGHTY SHE ATE. LUCKILY AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF BEING SICK SHE FINALLY PASSED THE BLOCKAGE AND AVOIDED SURGERY. then SHE HAD TO HAVE a dew claw surgery! POOR SHILOH! It was not over yet though, Shiloh thought it would be interesting to run through a barbed wire fence (bad idea,) she had to be rushed to the vet for stitches!

We all love seeing shiloh at daycare, Her happiness does reflect on us and the other pups, she brightens everyones day!!!

The "dog days" of summer have come and gone. But that doesn't mean it has to end!!..... Actually it does. Bring your dog for the once-a-year swim in the outdoor pool before it is closed for the season. Sorry, owners aren't allowed in the water.

About Stetson;

Stetson is a super loveable Yellow Lab. We still think of him here at Ruffledale as a puppy, but he actually turned a year old on February 13th 2010. He’s still a puppy at heart! Stetson LOVES to play with all of his friends. He is so silly and crazy when he is with other dogs. The only time Stetson likes to be away from his family is when he is at Ruffledale playing with his friends here or at the dog park. Other than that, he is always right with his pack at home. He doesn’t ever go far and makes sure he is always right ON their feet at home!! Stetson thinks of his family pack as his favorite “toys” and loves his Mom, Dad, human brother Alex and his friend Crystal. Stetson loves it when Alex is home from college because he will come get him mid-day from daycare and take him on hikes and then bring him back to play more. Then he gets to do all his favorite things in one day!! Stetson thinks “Tiger” the families 15 year old Orange American Tabby should be part of his pack too, but Tiger doesn’t agree. Stetson gets as close as Tiger will allow him and is sure to thoroughly explore every spot Tiger has laid in.....Maybe someday tiger will join the world of Stetson’s friends.

Stetson has a bad little habit of eating things he is not supposed to. His favorite thing is socks, but he also likes to eat stuffed toys he has torn up, gloves, and balls out of a love-sac. Stetson likes to eat these things, but he also likes to go around and find them to show his Mom so she can chase after him for them! Stetson has already spent a night in the Emergecy Room because of his eating naughty things. He had to throw up his favorite toy he ate while he was there. Now he is not allowed to have stuffed toys anymore. Although he is sad about that, he likes his red Kong that his Mom and Dad will fill with treats too! Stetson LOVES to eat, almost as much as he loves to play. A true lab! When his family gets his food ready he does his best tricks... “Sit” and “Stay” so he can show them what a good boy he is! Stetson can also spin and shake. At Ruffledale he is always one of the first to eat, because he is so excited.

Stetson came home to live with his family as a tiny puppy. His family was attached immediately. Stetson cried the whole car ride home. It didn’t take Stetson long to settle in to his new home though. Once he got home and found all of the new things to explore how could he be sad anymore? Plus his new family was so great and devoted to him! After he’d been in his new home, his family took him to puppy training class. That was great too. He loved getting through the class so he could do playtime at the end! Stetson started coming to Ruffledale when he was just shy of 6 months old. He was so crazy on his first visits, he couldn’t even slow down enough to really play! He just ran around so happy and excited! Now he is one of the funnest dogs here! He loves to play with everyone and loves to be right on our feet too! We all love our silly little Stetson!

June Dog of the Month; Callie

About Callie;

Callie is a 9 month old “flashy” fawn boxer. She was born on September 09 2009. She is extra petite and looks like she is still a tiny baby. Because she is so teeny, we all think she will look like a forever puppy. But don’t let her little size fool you! Not only can she hang with the big dogs, but she is the leader of the pack here at daycare most of the time! She loves to play and makes new friends every day. She thinks that all dogs and people are here to be her buddy. Any time we have a new dog who is shy here at daycare Callie will get them to play and have a good time. Callie has been coming to daycare since she was only 4 months old. Even then she was a wild and crazy pup who thought she was 10 times her size! We’ve all loved getting to know our sweet Callie and she has quickly become a favorite of all of our employees, and other regular dogs here at daycare.

Although Callie loves all of the dogs here at daycare, one of her favorite pups is Lola. Lola is an english bulldog who is close in age to Callie. Whenever they are here together, they are inseparable. They are so silly and always happy to see each other. Callie is full of spunk and energy, but she still has a bit of boxer laziness. She loves to sleep in until at least 8 am. and then likes to continue to be lazy as long as possible. She lives by the boxer motto: “Play hard & Sleep hard!” Once Callie hears her family walking in the house with shoes on she will jump up ad beg to come play with Lola ad the other pups here at Ruffledale! Callie is a very smart girl too. “Shake” and “Lay down” are her two best and favorite tricks. Of course she would do anything for her favorite treats Hot dogs and cheese! Other things Callie loves are her glow in the dark ball to play with, and having her neck behind her ears scratched. If you get her in the right spot, you will make her kick her leg. ☺

Callie was an early Christmas present for Kaylii her human sister. She was a surprise and her Dad drove down to Salt Lake to pick her up from her litter. He walked in the door to Kaylii’s room and everyone in the family was screaming with excitement over their new little puppy! Callie was instantly a part of the family and will always know her place with them. We are all grateful here at Ruffledale that we have gotten a chance to get to know her and have gotten to watch Callie grow up. We look forward to seeing her more and love having Ruffledale be a happy place for Callie.

On April 27th 2010, we lost one of our most beloved daycare friends, Osi. Osi was a two year old boxer that attended daycare regularly. She not only warmed the hearts of all the human friends she came in contact with, she also made best-friends with over half of the dogs that attend Ruffledale. She loved every dog and never discriminated against any of them, she loved the big and small ones, the old and young ones, the skinny and chubby ones, there was not one dog that Osi didn't welcome with open paws. She would greet each dog when they came through the gate, and the ones she really liked she would kiss over and over.

Osi had a special love for life, her happy spirit was infectious and when she was at daycare she brightened our days. We would laugh sometimes after watching her play and we decided she sometimes forgot she was a boxer, she didn't have the "Know-it-all" attitude that most boxers possess. Her time here was short, but her life was filled with joy and happiness and she never had to suffer any pain from growing old.

We will miss her kisses and getting to kiss her, we will miss seeing her charge through the door to play anxiously, we will miss seeing her play with all of her best friends, we will miss seeing her trot out the door exhausted from playing and excited to go home to see her family, we all will miss her greatly.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, we know you loved Osi and will miss her. Thank you for letting us be a part of her life and we will hold her in our hearts forever.

About Jake and Piper;

a.k.a ”Jaker McJake” and “Pipey McPipe”

Jake and Piper are two adorable but very wild puppies who come to daycare almost every day! They are a very regular staple here and we all love them to pieces. It has been great to watch these two grow up! Jake is a year old (his birthday is this month!!) lab and his little sister Piper is a 6 month old lab mix. She has not been around as long, but already the two are inseparable. Jake and Piper LOVE to play with little kids. Their Mom has 4 nieces and nephews, who adore Jake and Piper. They love to go to their Grandma and Grandpa’s house because they have a huge backyard that they can run around and be crazy in. Also, the kids are there to play with so they get lots of play time with the kids. The nieces like to play “Doggie Daycare” with Jake and Piper when they are together.

Jake and Piper could not have been more different as little puppies. Their Mom got Jake on July 17th 2009. He was very mellow for a puppy. He slept the whole first day and was and still is very laid back. Jake’s Mom decided that it would be nice for Jake to have a sister. She looked for a very long time in a lot of different places and finally decided to adopt Piper. Piper was the complete opposite of Jake when she came home on December 28th 2009. She was so wild. She ran around the house like a crazy dog until 3 am!!! Her Mom thought she was a devil dog, but Jake loved her. It was a long wait for their Mom until Piper could come to daycare to help get all that energy out. Now they both love daycare and get to be crazies together while they are here. When they get home, they go strait to sleep. Piper’s favorite sleeping spot is in the bathtub. She scratches it like she is “fluffing” it up before she lays down. Jake sleeps on softer stuff next to the bathtub.

Jake loves Blue Buffalo Peanut Butter Cookies and Piper is most fond of Vitabones. They are not known to turn down other treats though and are always happy to try new things. Jake loves to have his ears rubbed when he is relaxing, and since her spay when she was shaved Piper has developed a liking for her Belly being rubbed. They both have their favorite toys as well. Jake loves his old Kong Tennis Ball, and Piper loves her Mega Kong Wubba. They don’t really have any special tricks yet. They are still working hard on those!! Jake and Piper are everything to their Mom. She adores them and her life is centered on their Happiness. There could not be two luckier dogs. Jake and Piper are not only loved by their Mom, but her whole family loves them and think of them as part of the family too. We are all happy here at Ruffledale to get to be a part of their happy lives! ♥♥Jaker McJake and Pipey McPipe ♥♥

Ruffledale is very excited for this years Strut your Mutt. This is a one mile leisurely walk that dogs are invited too. All of the money benefits The No More Homeless Pets in Utah organization. It is a great cause, tons of fun and a great opportunity to get your pup out and about! It is being held at a new location; Veterans Memorial Park in West Jordan on Saturday May 22nd. Ruffledale will have a booth and we would Love to see some of our favorite pooches there doing the walk. Please check out their website for more information and to register for the walk. We were it hit with "Spring Fever" and the Spring Break Holiday! Unfortunately, we were hit with snow and rain too! The dogs didn't seem to mind, actually many of them were super excited to awake to snow, fun cold white stuff to roll in and eat, who could ask for anything more.

We had an awesome spring break and a great time getting to know all the new pups that came and vacationed with us. It was awesome to have so many pups join the pack for a week!

April Dog of the Month; Bubba!!

About Bubba;

Bubba is a Pug and Boston Terrier Mix, often called a “Bug”. He has been visiting Ruffledale since he was just a teeny tiny little 4 month old puppy. He was so adorable and extra wild. He quickly made friends with the daycare’s largest attendant “Charlie.” The two of them are so funny together. Bubba pins the great dane/mastiff mix down and Charlie will pick Bubba up gently in his mouth. The two are still inseparable and spend the majority of their time here at Ruffledale together. They are the best of buddies. When Bubba’s Mom pulls up in the morning he is so excited, you can see him standing on the dash of the car ready to jump at any opportunity to get in the building!!

Bubba Absolutely Loves Bacon! It is the best treat he can imagine...... Nothing could even compare to Bacon! Bubba will do anything for Bacon including his Coooolest Trick; “Play Dead.” Bubba also loved tennis balls. Any size or color of Tennis Ball is great for Bubba. Bacon covered Tennis Balls are something he thinks should be created! ☺ Bubba always loves to be the center of attention. He would love it if you would spend all day rubbing his back and belly. Although Bubba loves attention, he is not very impressed if you interrupt his naps. He will give you “The Look” if you try to move him. “The Look” is very angry and sleepy and irritated.

Bubba’s fist day at his new home was in December. It was very cold and Bubba was just a little guy. He was confused and a little scared, but his new Mommy and Daddy took extra special care of him to make sure he liked his new home. When Bedtime came around they put Bubba in a kennel or “cage” as Bubba thinks of it. Bubba decided at that time that a “cage” was not going to work for him... Bubba cried for 2 hours in his “cage” and then his new parents decided that Bubba should join them in their very comfortable and fluffy bed. That worked much better for Bubba. Bubba also loves it when his parents take him on any car ride since cars usually go to fun places like Daycare or the Dog Park. Only occasionally cars go to sucky places like the Vet.

Bubba is an extremely happy dog. He loves all dogs and people. Bubba thinks that he is a big dog and has most of the dogs at daycare convinced that he is a big dog too. He is always happy and excited. Life is good if you are Bubba. Bubba doesn’t just wag his tail when he is excited, but he does the whole body wiggle! Bubba is so silly and ecstatic all the time that you can’t help but smile and be happy when he is around. Bubba brings a happy go lucky and spunky attitude to Ruffledale that makes daycare that much better!

March Dog of the Month: Buster McGee!!

About Buster McGee;

Buster McGee is a almost 3 year old German Shepherd Dog. His birthday is coming up on May 5th. He has been coming to Ruffledale since he was a ten month old puppy...Wow! Time sure flies and he is still the same silly Puppy that he was back then! He LOVES to play with all of his other doggie friends here at daycare. Buster McGee also has a girlfriend here, a golden retriever named Gracie. Gracie was the dog of the month back in June of 2009. Gracie and Buster McGee both come on Wednesday’s and romp and play all day together. They definitely hold a special place in each other’s hearts. ❤

Buster McGee is an all around playful dog...He especially loves days when his Dad wakes up bright and early and takes him to play with his favorite toy....THE FRISBEE!!! Or more accurately a couple of Frisbee’s. Buster McGee’s Dad has to have at least two frisbees because once he has caught one the only way to get him to give it up is to throw another frisbee that is more exciting to chase. Buster McGee will chase Frisbee’s back and forth for hours running over anything that gets in his path of his Frisbee chasing. After all the Frisbee chasing Buster McGee will need a recovery nap, then a long walk and if he’s lucky some more Frisbee chasing in the back yard until bedtime!

Although Buster McGee loves everyone; Animals, Dogs and other animals, He is very frustrated with his new cat Mr. Magoo. Mr. Magoo does not seem to share his affection. Mr. Magoo, being a cat, takes joy in torturing Buster Mcgee. Mr. Magoo likes to sit on the other side of the pet gate when Buster McGee is locked in the Front Room. He is in sight, but not in reach. Poor Buster McGee, he just wants to play with Mr. Magoo.

Buster McGee loves to be scratched on his belly and right above his tail. It is the best way for him to start his morning, and he appreciates his Dad for starting his days in such a great way. Buster McGee knows lots of tricks, including “Rolling Over”, “Waving Goodbye” and “Touch and High 5.” Buster McGee has never met a treat that he does not like but he especially loves Pup-peroni, dehydrated chicken tenders and Hamburgers. Mmmm Yum Yum. Buster is very loyal and devoted to his Dad, as his Dad is to him too. We all love seeing buster McGee here at Ruffledale and are excited for his weekly visit. It wouldn’t be the same on Wednesday’s without him. He is so silly and jovial he reminds us all that we should always just be happy in life.

February Dog of the Month: Booger!!!

About Booger;

Booger, (AKA “Boogie” or “Boogitty”) is a 5 year old Lab and Pointer mix. He is a regular here at Ruffledale and has been coming since Ruffledale opened its doors. Ruffledale is Boogers’ “Home Away From Home.” Most of the time when clients come in they don’t even know Booger is here! We can put all of the dogs in the back and leave Boogie up front and he won’t move from his spot on the couch. He LOVES to sleep and is happy just relaxing for all of the day, every day! Boogers’ ideal day would be as follows; Sleep, Eat, Sleep, Treat, Sleep. Perfect!! Booger loves to have his belly rubbed. He will just roll over where he is laying and let you rub his belly all day if possible.

Booger got his name from his first time home. When his Mom adopted him, he had a really bad case of Bronchitis. He was very sick and full of green Boogers! Hence he got his name. Now it fits him because he is a naughty little booger!! But we all love our Boogitty. Ruffledale wouldn’t be the same without Booger on our couch! Because Boogie was so sick, all he wanted to do was cuddle with his new Mom who rescued him. Now he still loves to cuddle with her in bed!

Booger loves to eat! It is the most important thing to him and his favorite thing is Cheez its! (of course dog food is pretty good too!) Other favorite treats are anything that is left on the counter when his Mom leaves, canned food the other dogs at Ruffledale are supposed to get, Chew Bones, and especially when his mom Home cooks him chicken and rice with pumpkin! Mmmmmm. Yes, he is quite spoiled! Sometimes Booger even likes to eat things he shouldn’t like the Squeakies out of his toys after he shreds them!! He has gotten a couple trips to the vet from eating those. Even some X-Rays to make sure they are moving through the way they should. Since those are his favorite, his Mom can’t let him have toys any more with a squeakie in them. Poor Booger. But he also loves to chase lasers, and loved the one he got for Christmas from Ruffledale.

Boogie loves all animals. Dogs are great, but he really loves Cats. Booger thinks of Cats as “Laura’s” because his Aunt Laura had a cat and whenever his Mom asked him if he wanted to go see Laura he would get excited to see the Kitty. Now if you ask him where the Laura is he starts searching around for a Cat to play with. Everyone here at Ruffledale loves getting to have Boogie around. He is such a staple here at Ruffledale, that without him we wouldn’t know what to do!

In Loving Memory.......

Everyone at Ruffledale are mourning the loss of one of our most beloved daycare dogs. Cartman, a sweet 2 year old English Mastif passed away last week.

All of us loved having Cartman at Ruffledale. He was always the life of the party, playing with dogs of all shapes and sizes, and of course always getting into arguments with "regular" Packer a boxer. It was a given that no matter where Cartman was in the facility, his best friend and brother Butters was by his side, (or biting his back legs.)

Each of us at Ruffledale have great memories of Cartman, to his love of food and treats to how wonderful he was in the bath. Even at his large size he was one of the easiest dogs to give a bath too. Although he out weighed each and everyone of us here, he was just a big lovable teddy bear, a "gentle giant," that we all loved to hug.

Everyone who entered the building would comment on "That gigantic dog on the couch and the cute little one laying on top of him." He was also a great window display, I remember pulling up to the store and laughing because of Cartman's face looking out at me and in the background his brother Butters curled up on his back.

Cartman's love of life and the great friendships he shared will greatly be missed but never forgotten. We send our love to the family of Cartman, we know how much he meant to you and how he was a huge part of your life. We Thank You for letting us spend time with Cartman. We love you! Dog of the Month for January; PATCHES!!

About Patches;

Patches is a Dalmation and Heeler cross. She just turned 12 years old in October of 2009!! Although Patches is an older girl, she still loves to play with the most silly and rambunctious puppies here at Ruffledale. She LOVES to be wild and play!! Patches’ favorite toy is a Frisbee! There is nothing better to her (except maybe some peanut butter doggie bones Mmmmmm) When Patches was a younger pup, she used to like to climb up trees chasing after her frisbee. She would also do “No Paw Cartwheels” to catch it! She still loves her Frisbee but takes a less dramatic approach to catching it now! Patches also loves going hiking. She likes to find sticks to carry around and it is an especially good hike if Patches can find a chipmunk to chase up a tree or a little snow she can roll around in. Patches is an expert stick hunter, and will find the biggest stick (or small log!) that she can possibly carry. Even if it is an entire field of nothing but snow, Patches will somehow still find a stick.

When Patches fist came home, her new parents got her at 8 weeks old as a “Pound Puppy.” Her new Dad bought her a crate for bedtime and said she needed to sleep there and no way could she be on the bed. Well Patches already knew how to use her big sad puppy eyes. She only needed to let out one little wimper along with her “Sad Eyes” and Dad took her out of the crate and put her in bed. Patches has slept in bed with her Mom and Dad ever since! Spoiled Patches!! Patches most favorite moment was when she was fist introduced to a Ham Shank. she was so excited, that she accidentally bit her Dad’s hand while he was giving it to her. Patches was very sorry, but she could not resist the warm and tender juiciness. Mmmm Sooo Sooo yummy.

There are a lot of thins that make Patches unique and special. Patches has one special talent that is extremely unique to her. When Patches is traveling she can tell when the elevation changes. Her Mom and Dad’s theory is that she can sense the change from the pressure in her ears. Hmmm very interesting. But if Patches can tell that the elevation is going up, she expects to get to go on a hike in the mountain to find a big stick to carry around! Everyone here at Ruffledale loves when Patches comes to spend a weekend or even longer here with us. She is so sweet and we love to hear her ferocious growls when she is playing with one of the most wild and crazy puppies here!

Naughty DOG's

These are some of the pictures we were sent when we went looking for "Naughty Dogs." I heard a lot of stories, but most people don't grab their camera and take pictures of their dogs mess. Here are two of my favorite..

The first is a black lab named Guinness. Guinness was being puppy sat by his Grandma, she decided to run upstairs for a quick 20 minute shower. When she returned she saw Guinness had turned her laundry room into a fun puppy painting center. He tore open a huge bag of flour and found some fruit punch gatorade bottles to chew up and paint her a wonderful "paw painting" throughout the room.

He sat there so good to have his picture taken, so proud of his artistic work. How could you possibly get mad at that beautiful puppy face!!!

The next culprit is this sweet boy named Pax, for such a little boy he sure knows how to make a big boy mess. When his owner (Natalie) leaves little Pax home alone to long, he decides to teach her a lesson. This is only one of the messes he has made for her.

A Tribute to Naughty Dogs!!!

So today I was just hanging out at home, I came wandering down the stairs to find my 8 year old lab on top of my counter. Which is about waist level to me. She is a average size lab, she weighs about 56 pounds, so you can imagine my surprise to see her just hanging out up there. Luckily I had my phone in my hand, so I hurried and snapped a shot of her up there, so I could prove it to all the disbelievers. Which there will be some, because at daycare everyone talks about how well behaved and sweet my Dakota is, but really she is super naughty, and really always has been. The thing that makes me laugh is I have another lab named Kenna. She is the well behaved one at home, but at daycare she is super naughty. So all the girls at work think that I am crazy when I tell them how naughty Dakota is. Now I have evidence to prove it.

The picture is not the best quality, but if you look close she is casually standing there drinking my two year olds sippy cup.

So after laughing at all the naughty things that puppies and dogs do, I decided that November and December should be a "Tribute" to all of our naughty dogs. If they were perfect how much fun could that possibly be.

So to kick things off, I must post a picture of Ashley's Wedding cake. Ashley was one of our employees at Ruffledale, this summer she was married. She of course wanted all of the family dogs involved in the wedding process, they even were invited to her ceremony out of state. After realizing that bringing all the dogs along might not be that practical (all four range in size from about 40lbs to 140lbs). They decided that they would leave them home, but they were involved in the reception at home.

It's Halloween time again... and of course we have our annual Halloween Costume Party! As I was getting all of my children's costumes ready (one skin baby and 2 Fur Babies,) about a month before Halloween, I would dress each one up and take pics on my phone. I had to make sure the costumes fit and looked cute.. Then I would text message them to the people I think care as much as I do about my costumes, that I have searched for, mostly ending up on Ebay of course paying much more than they are worth, but well worth it.

With a big smile on my face my costumes are ready and complete and just waiting for Halloween!! That's when I get a text message from my Mom, asking me if the poor dogs think I am a "nut case." I laugh, realizing that eight years running I have dressed up my beloved Lab Dakota, and never has she made a peep, she happily plays along, no matter how she really feels, she trots along showing off her costume, just to please her "crazy" human Mommy. Then I think about my little boy and how at only two getting him to stay in his costume is a large chore. That is why having a dog(s) around is what everyone needs. When everyone around is asking so much of you, your dog is there to love you unconditionally no matter your "nuttyness."

Here are some pics from this years Halloween party!! We had a blast, even if the dogs were wondering what was going on, so many items hanging off of each other to chase around and eat, but all in all it was a success.

Dog of the Month for November SOLDIER!!

About Soldier;

Soldier is a wild and crazy German Shepherd Dog. He was born on October 15th 2007. He just celebrated his 2nd Birthday!! He has sure grown up since his first visit to Ruffledale when he was barely a year old. Soldier’s favorite days are days that he gets to come play with all of his friends here at Ruffledale (dog’s and people). When he gets here we each get a very energetic greeting from a very excited Soldier. Soldier loves to be outside and spends a lot of his day here at Ruffledale getting his friends to chase him outside so they can play out there. He also likes to take things from the people at Ruffledale and get them to chase him outside too!! He loves to be the center of attention while he is here and being chased is his favorite way to spend the day!

Soldier loves to play Soccer. He guides the Soccer ball with his front legs and nose. The Soccer Ball is his favorite toy. Soldier loves to be around everyone. Soldier especially loves Children. He is always very gentle with them, even though he is big and energetic! Although Soldier pretty much loves all people and dogs, he is not very fond of going to the Vet. He could definitely do without those visits. He especially doesn’t appreciate when he needs ANY kind of Ear Treatment.....those are Soldier’s personal torture! But if you just give him a little scratch on his neck or right above his tail he will forget all about the mean Ear stuff!

Soldier came from the mountains in Colorado. His new Dad picked him up and drove him home. His new Dad picked him out of all of the other Puppies because he was the only one who wasn’t scared of his big scary dog Dad. (Even his new human Dad was respectful of his Dog Dad!) All of the puppies were nervous about their Dad, but Soldier trotted right up to him and licked his face!! His new human Dad figured that a confident puppy would be more people friendly and wouldn’t “fear-bite.” Soldier’s confidence has definitely worked out in that way. He loves everyone and is completely sure that everyone loves him too!!! In the hotel on the drive home he got to sleep on his new human Dad’s bed in his little blue crate. Now that he is older he sleeps in his crate right in the bedroom. He never once cried in his crate when he was a baby and slept all through the night. The only scary thing for Soldier in his new home was learning how to use the stairs. He needed to use the wall to help him keep his balance while bravely went down the stairs one at a time! Soldier has now mastered going up and down the stairs.

Doggie Swim Day!

We took our pups to the doggie swim day at the Bountiful Recreation Center. They had a blast and they ALL suprised us by being very well behaved. It was the first annual event and we are praying that they decide the chaos was worth it and hold the event again!!!

About Brandy and Bozley:

Brandy and Bozley are two very special mixed breed pooches. Bozley is a Standard Schnauzer mix and Brandy is a Terrier mix. They both love each other and are a silly and sweet pair. We have known them here at Ruffledale for a long time. They’ve been around since early 2005! We always love seeing them and spending the day with them. They like to chew on each other while they are here, and Brandy likes to pull poor Bozley around by his collar! They love to eat human food treats such as Steak, Fish or Chicken. Mmmm, that is the ideal doggie treat!

Brandy and Bozley love to go up to their parents cabin. They get to hike all day and have steak leftovers for dinner....Yum! Although they both love the cabin, Bozley is not very fond of hiking in the snow. One time his parents took him out in the snow, and he only got about 100 feet and he hightailed it back to the cabin where he knew he was safe and warm...Much better way to spend his afternoon. Bozley and Brandy came to live with their parents at different times. Bozley was being Fostered in Millville and was excited to smell everything in his new home. He went from room to room checking everything out. When Brandy came along, Bozley was a little shy and timid getting to know her. Brandy was delivered in the back of a pickup truck from Vernal. It didn’t take them long though before they became inseparable buddies.

One of Brandy’s naughtiest tricks is climbing the fence. Bozley’s best trick is “handshake.” They both love to be petted and rubbed. Bozley’s favorite spots are his belly and eyes. He will keep you there all day rubbing his belly if he can. Brandy will actually move your hand to where she wants to be rubbed. She also loves to sit on your lap and “hug” you while she is there. When they are at Ruffledale Brandy has to meet and say Hi to everyone who comes in. Bozley is a little more shy and takes a minute to get to know people. But once he knows you he will wag his little stubby tail and his whole bum will wag around with it!

About Freckles.....

Freckles is a Tri-Colored Walker Hound who loves to play! She loves to come to daycare and is a regular attendee. Her estimated birthday is Feb 16, 2007. That makes her about two and a half years old. She still has the energy and personality of a puppy. Freckles is a rescue dog. Her Mom adopted her from the shelter. When she came to live with her new Mom she was very skinny and docile. All of the neighborhood kids came over to see her. It only took Freckles a week in her new home to perk up and become the wild and active Freckles that we know today! She is great with kids and thinks that she is one of their pack. Freckles Mom’s granddaughter loves to come over and give Freckles “Tummy Time” which consists of lots of tummy rubbing and scratching. Freckles also enjoys entertaining the other grandchildren by jumping over step stools.

Freckles loves to help her Mom garden. It is her favorite thing to do when they both go out together and dig. She feels like she is helping her Mom accomplish all of the things that they need to do. She lives to be outside and hangs around the door to get outside to the yard. Freckles does not particularly enjoy cats and is not nearly as friendly with them as she is with all of her dog friends at Ruffledale. Freckles loves to eat. If it were up to her she would just eat all the time. It is always great when she gets treats at Ruffledale. “Feeding Time” is probably one of Freckles most favorite times of the day. Mmmmm. However at daycare she only gets dog treats which are not as exciting as some of the yummies she gets at home. Her favorite things to snack on are all fruits and vegetables. At least she is a healthy girl! Her other favorite thing is having some cheese in her Kong. That is good because it takes a little longer to get it all eaten so it will last longer.

Everyone here at Ruffledale has loved getting to know Freckles. She is always so sweet natured with us. She loves hanging out with all of her dog friends. Freckles has a very distinct howl. She talks like a person and the more you get to know her the more it sounds like she is actually talking. Freckles really loves all people. When there are people she can’t get to through the gate, she puts her hands through and tries to grab onto them so they can make friends. But she is always especially excited to see children! Her favorite toy at home is her Mom’s shoes. She would much rather have a shoe that a dog squeak toy.

THE "AIR SCRUBBER"

Freshens the air and reduces up to 99.9% of Bacteria and Mold on the surfaces in the place it is installed. Also it reduces 90% of Airborne Bacteria, Viruses and germs.

We installed the Air Scrubber in July of this Year. They have not had a lot of use in pet facilities but we thought it would be worth a try to see if it would reduce our likelihood of diseases. Since we have installed the Air Scrubber we have noticed a drop in the number of kennel cough cases. We always have a rise in cases during the summer months, and this year we saw the least cases of any year so far.

Our New Foster Dog, BUSTER!

We currently have two foster dogs at Ruffledale right now. The funny thing about them is they came from different situations but they look like brother and sister.

I am writing this because I believe it is a story that should be heard, for animal cruelty awareness. Unfortunately not all our beloved pets have great stories. So I would like to tell Buster's story for awareness and because he is so sweet and deserves to be loved as much as he loves you.

Buster is a six year old lab mix, we think he could be mixed with border collie. He is super lovable and loves to be with people and other dogs. He finally is warming up to his enviroment here at Ruffledale and is meshing quite well with the others.

I received a phone call from a friend that she had heard about a dog in her friend's neighborhood that had been abandon. The family had lost(foreclosed) on their house and had packed everything up and left. Unfortunately they decided to leave their beloved dog Buster behind, tied to a tree. Buster watched his family drive away, kids and belongings and was left with only a small amount of food and water.

When my friend went and picked up Buster he was very sad, severely dehydrated and hungry. They took him and let him recover at their home over the weekend. When I was called I told them that of course we would let him live here at Ruffledale.

Now we need to find Buster a new home. Someone who will love him and if a crisis did strike their family that they would take in consideration Busters life too. We promised him that we would love and take care of him until we could find someone to do the same.

About Buddha:

Buddha is a very fun-loving “Giant” Pomeranian! He is always the life of the party when he is here at Ruffledale. He is getting ready to turn four on November 8th of this year. Buddha loves all people and dogs. Kids are his favorite, and he will stop anything he is doing to see a little boy or girl. He is always friendly with everyone. Buddha loves to “talk” but never in a mean way! Buddha loves his stuffed toys, but his favorites are his “lamb,” “baby,” and his “monkey.” Although Buddha loves to play with other dogs in person, one of his biggest pet-peeves is dogs barking on the TV. He must be confused where they are and how he can get to them. Besides dogs on TV, Buddha loves to watch TV. He will stare intently for hours if it is a show he likes! He also hates to see horses being brushed, and gets upset. Maybe because with all of his long hair he understands that brushing is no fun!

One of Buddha’s favorite times was a road trip he took with his Mom to Arizona. He loved watching out the window during the entire drive just taking in all the new sights. He loved the way the landscape changed and all of the new things he could see. It was also very important for Buddha to protect his car during this trip, especially from the strange Joshua Tree’s. He would bark at those if they got too close! Buddha didn’t always love driving in the car. On his first day home he was really scared when he had to get in the car. He cried the whole way home and had an accident in the car because he was so scared. Now Buddha knows that the car takes him fun places like Ruffledale, Arizona, and to drive through windows that have ice cream cones! Mmmm Those are Buddha’s favorite treat besides Cheese. But really Buddha will eat “anything.”

Buddha loves coming to daycare. He has been a regular here at Ruffledale for years. We all have loved watching him grow up. Buddha usually prefers to play with the big dogs rather than the small ones who are his own size. Sometimes at closing time Buddha isn’t ready to go home and we will have to catch him to send him home. He runs right in without any hesitation no matter how many dogs are at the gate greeting him. He does get a little jealous though if his Mom pets too many other dogs for too long. He will bark and “yell” at her to stop! Not only does Buddha love dogs, but he also loves his cat at home. He is very nice to the kitty and likes to share food!

About Bailey and Tessa:

Bailey and Tessa are two very sweet and outgoing German Shepherds. They love each other so much. They are rarely not together. Bailey was born on November 11th 2006. She was brought home as a tiny puppy and brought to Ruffledale not too long after that. Bailey was instantly a favorite. She was the cutest Pup. Her ears were still silly and floppy. Bailey got lots of visitors at home too because everyone was so excited for a little puppy. She picked out her family and was of course the “Pick of the Litter” which translates to “more money.” But her family couldn’t resist....they already loved her. Bailey was a little lonely and needed a friend, so her family decided to rescue another Shepherd. They found Tessa on a website and had her home quickly after that. Tessa is guessed to be about 5 years old, but since she is adopted we don’t know an exact birthday. After Tessa was bathed and given a new collar and taught some new manners, she fit in with her family wonderfully, Her and Tessa quickly became best friends.

Bailey and Tessa absolutely LOVE Pepperoni. They like the circle ones that go on pizza. Mmmmm Yum. Bailey and Tessa know a special hand command from their parents that tells them to lay down without any words being said. Tessa can also ‘shake’ and ‘roll over’. Bailey Finally just learned ‘shake’ after lots of work from her family. Bailey and Tessa love to come to daycare at Ruffledale. Their parents can’t say “daycare” or they will go crazy at the door all ready to go. They know that they have to sit in a special spot by the door before they get to go, but once they are free they run as fast as they can to the car so they can go. At Ruffledale their favorite person is Kathie the groomer. They are so so so happy when she takes her breaks with them out in the backyard. Bailey and Tessa try to block all the other dogs from getting too much attention from their “special person.”

Bailey loves to chase the laser pointer. She could go for hours without stopping if her family would let her. Her family has nicknamed her “Remote Contol dog” because she loves chasing it so much!!! Tessa is not so fond of Bailey’s laser chasing. She has been nicknamed “Our Ninny” because she does everything she can to make Bailey calm down. Bailey and Tessa love to go on walks and have special backpacks that carry their water for them. Bailey doesn’t love the backpack, but she knows she gets a walk, so she will give in and wear the backpack. But she gets so tired that she has to be carried home by the end of her walk. Tessa loves the walk and the backpack. Bailey and Tessa’s family refer to them as their “Fur Babies” in contrast to their other children who are “Skin Babies!!”

Gracie is a regular here at Ruffledale. She loves to come for daycare. She is well known by our clients as the dog on the coffee table! Her favorite place to be is standing, napping or playing on our coffee table. She is a beautiful Golden Retriever. Gracie just celebrated her 8th Birthday in May. Gracie has been a doggy daycare regular since February of 2005......that's just four months after we opened our doors! We have all loved seeing Gracie every week. Gracie's best trick is "shaking hands" on command. She loves her stuffed white tiger and chewing on Bacon Flavored Rawhides...Mmmmmm!!! What could be better?????

Gracie loves being scratched behind her ears and she will be your best friend forever if you start scratching. The rougher the better!!! Gracie is such a social little girl. She has never met a human or another dog that she doesn't need to meet and say Hi too. She loves everyone who comes into daycare, both human and canine! Although she loves everyone, her favorite friend is a new dog here at daycare; A German Shepherd named Buster McGee. The girls at Ruffledale think him and Gracie are more of boyfriend and girlfriend than just friends! Gracie's ideal day would consist of a long day at Ruffledale playing and socializing with all the people and doggy friends. Then a quick trip home to take a long recovery nap.

Gracie's first day home was a little confusing for her. She decided it would be best to sleep and nap all day. Then she was awake to entertain her new master all night long. Thankfully Gracie has adjusted to daytime activity and nightime sleeping. Gracie and a very fun winter Cross Country Skiing with her Mom and Dad. She got to go leash free which was great because she was able to wander free to check out all of the interesting smells and things on the trails. Gracie's biggest Pet Peeves is Cats. She just doesn't understand them.

Pets of the Month for MAY 2009!

JUAN AND JAKE!!

Juan has been a regular pal at Ruffledale since we opened our doors in 2004!!! His brother Jake came into the picture more recently. Jake was boarding at Ruffledale when his Dad decided he couldn't keep him anymore. After living here at Ruffledale for just a little while Juan's Mom decided to make them "brother's." Now Juan and Jake are quite a pair. They are their Mom's "Babies!!" and her "Life" (Despite their combined weight of over 150 pounds!")

Juan is a black lab who loves to play. His birthday is April 29th making him a Taurus pup, also known as "The Supporter." This fits Juan because him Mom describes him as her "Angel." He has helped her through so many hard times and has been her support through so much. Juan is so in tune to his Mom's emotions. Juan is such a happy-go-lucky dog. Juan loves his ears, butt and legs scratched. If you start with scratching his spots, you may be there all day. Juan also likes to 'steal' things so that you have to chase him around for them. At home his favorite is the remote controls; at daycare it is water bottles, business cards, paper towels, cell phones and anything else. He just loves the attention he gets when we are all chasing him in circles.

Jake is the more mellow dog of the two. He is much more relaxed about life. He would just eat and chill in front of the TV all day if it was by his choice. Jake is a Great Dane mix. He is also all black, with a little white spot on his leg from a orthopedic surgery when he was younger. His first day home with his new family was a little scary. But once he realized that they already loved him so much, he quickly came to love his new "Mami" and "Papi" and especially Juan. Jake is a big boy who thinks he is little. He loves it when he is being rubbed. He will lean into you until you almost fall over, and will block you in your path if he wants to be petted. Jake has a quessed birthday of December 29th.

Pet of the Month for APRIL 2009!!!
Brooke

Brooke is a very special Labrador Retriever. She was born on November 27th 2006. That makes her a Sagittarius pup just like Disney’s Goofy!!!! Brooke loves CHEESE and her Raccoon whip. Her best attention getting tricks are “crawl” and she is also great at weaving in between her big sister, Sam’s, legs! Brooke loves to retrieve. Water is her favorite play place and she is happy to play all day fetching anything from the water. Her first experience with water was a trip in July of 2007 with her family to Mirror Lake that is when she discovered her love of water retrieving!

An ideal day for Brooke would be as follows: Wake up at 7 am and get breakfast. After a quick trip out back, she would go out to get the newspaper. Before returning to the house with the paper she would run around the cul-de-sac. After dropping the newspaper at the foyer, she would eat her treats in second speed. Next, she would jump in the car with her ears flapping in the wind as she rides to Ruffledale. After hours of “crazy puppy” she would return home for her dinner and an endless game of ball. For the rest of the night she would be given cookies and cheese mixed in with the occasional nap. She would retire the night sleeping next to her sister Sam.

Brooke is great at knowing when someone is feeling down. She is such a lover and is always willing to share a few extra kisses and love when it is needed. Her favorite friends at daycare are; Soldier, Barley, Lilie, Cocoa and Grady. There are certain words in Brooke’s vocabulary that she knows by heart, these include: Dinner, Walk, Cheese, Bed, Ride, Kennel, Swim, Come, Play, Newspaper and Run. If you say any of these words, you will be expected to deliver.

Attention Everyone! The Annual FURBALL is on Saturday, February 7th. Tickets are $75.00 per person, dogs are free. It is an annual fundraiser for homeless pets. Any questions ask one of the girls at Ruffledale and we will give you contact info.... It is super fun and the dogs love it... All the girls from Ruffledale will be attending with their many pups, so if you would like to meet up let us know.. thanks TeAnna

Thank you all for a wonderful 2008! Every year it just gets better.... Some of the things added in 2008... We repainted the building inside and out, we refinished our cement floors, the dogs don't really seem to know any difference. We also added some gravel in the back, and the dogs really liked that because there were mounds of gravel they could play "King of Hill" on. We also remodeled the back and added 15 more personal suites for the spoiled pups we love so much. We changed the front office by getting an awesome custom desk. Last but not least, we added the retail area in the front, stocked with all kinds of cute things for your pup!

I would like to thank all the wonderful people that make Ruffledale such a great place for our dogs to hang out.. All the great customers and the great staff. I am looking forward to another awesome year.. Stay tuned for some more updates!!!!

I can't imagine doing anything else when I think of my job. I remember when I wanted to open Ruffledale, and people telling me I was crazy. I am so glad that I did not listen to them and I went forth with my dream.

Sometimes I sit around and think how wonderful my job is.. and I hope that there are many people out there that get to do what they love. I am just so lucky to really enjoy my work so much.

A PETS TEN COMMANDMENTS.........
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!
Remember that they can't do a lot of things for themselves and that they depend on you to make their life a quality life!

First Day!

We at Ruffledale have decided to start a blog.... This is the first day and we are all new to the blogger world... so this could be very interesting.

All of us at Ruffledale are so excited to post all about what happens on a day to day basis. Each of us here not only are in love with dogs, but some people tease us, telling us that we all are "part dog," kind of scary!!!

When I think about the comment of us being half dog, I first look to see if I have grown a tail, then I laugh, because the way we act I sometimes wonder myself. Working with so many dogs is amazing. You learn so much about the dog world, but then you realize how much it is like the human world. For example,

we shake hands to introduce ourselves:they sniff bums to introduce themselves...

as children we fight over toys:as dogs they fight over toys....

If someone gets more attention then us, we get jealous: If someone gets more attention then them, they get jealous

We need love: they also need love

We love to play with our friends: they love to play with their friends

I could go on for hours, but that would get boring.. I guess the best thing to realize is, that after working at Ruffledale I don't just think dogs are amazing creatures... I know they are!!!!
